Position:
Volunteer Counselor
Purpose of Position:
To provide health insurance information, assistance, and
referral to Medicare beneficiaries.
Responsible to:
OSHIIP County Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Satisfactory completion of certification training and the
recertification process conducted under the auspices of OSHIIP
- Conducts individual health insurance counseling sessions
without conflict of interest and in compliance with OSHIIP
regulations.
- Assesses client’s needs for information and/or assistance
- Provides information about traditional and nontraditional
Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare supplementary insurance, and
long term care insurance
- Assists with health insurance claims filing, reviews EOMBs
and provider bills, and organizes all documents related to
health insurance
- Provides informal claim and appeals advocacy as required
- Maintains client confidentiality at all times
- Completes and submits an OSHIIP Counselor Report (blue
form) for each client counseled to the Volunteer Administrator
- Satisfactorily completes recertification training as required
by OSHIIP
- Completes a follow up contact with clients to ensure all
insurance problems are resolved and the client is satisfied
with the counseling received
